Wow! Amazing Uses of Rice Water for Skin & Hair!

Rice Powder or rice flour is made by grinding the uncooked rice into a fine powder whereas Rice water is the nutrient-rich water that comes from soaking or cooking the rice. Rice water is cloudy in appearance.

Rice contains a high concentration of PABA (para aminobenzoic acid) which is a very good sunscreen. When taken internally, PABA also raises the Vitamin C levels in our bodies. Rice also contains two other sun protecting agents – Ferulic acid and Allantoin. Ferulic acid is an antioxidant. Incredibly, scientists have found that when ferulic acid is added to Vitamin C and E, its sun protection ability doubles.  Allantoin is a good anti-inflammatory agent. It soothes sunburns and also promotes the skin’s repair.  When applied as a paste on the skin, rice powder has been shown to inhibit tyrosinase.

Rice Flour for Hair

It is extremely wonderful for hair. A mixture/paste of rice water either soaked overnight or cooked and Shikakai Powder is prepared. The quantity for this depends on your hair length. Prepare the mixture and apply this to your hair roots and lengths. Let it sit for 20 mins and then wash thoroughly with lukewarm water. You can follow this with your shampoo and conditioner. As Shikakai can be quite drying on the hair, so we always mix it up with conditioning ingredients like rice water. You can repeat this weekly once. Try it and see how smooth and shiny your hair turns.

Rice flour face pack for Glowing Skin

Take one teaspoonful of rice flour and mix half teaspoonful of oats and some honey to make a paste of the two ingredients. Apply it on the face and after 15-20 minutes. Gently scrub this face pack from the face to reveal a clear and glowing face. This is good to get rid of the flaky peeling dry skin and to whiten the dry face. This pack benefits in firming and toning the skin.

Rice flour face pack with Multani Mitti (FullerEarth) 
(for Oily Skin)

This is especially good for oily to combination skin that has acne and marks on the face. Take one teaspoonful of rice flour and add half teaspoonful of multani mitti. Take some tomato juice and mix with rice flour and multani mitti (fuller’s earth) into a paste. Apply this face pack in on the face and let it dry completely. Do this every alternate day for a clearer skin.

Rice flour pack with Gram flour for Exfoliation

This rice flour scrub pack is great for exfoliating the skin. Mix one teaspoonful of rice flour and sugar each. Add half teaspoonful of Gramflour(besan) and mix it well. Add some rose water to it. After making a paste, apply to the face. Let it dry. Wet your fingers and start rubbing your face gently with fingers in circular motion for 3-4mins (don’t do this if you have active acnes as it might irritate the acnes) and wash with lukewarm water. Pat dry followed by a moisturizer.

Rice flour Anti-tan pack

This rice flour pack will help you to get rid of sun tan and blemishes. Mix one teaspoonful of rice flour with some cucumber juice and lemon juice to make a paste. Apply the paste on face or sun tanned areas and leave for 20-30 mins until completely dry. Wash with cold water.

Rice flour pack for Skin Whitening

Mix one teaspoonful of rice flour, one to two tablespoon Coconut Milk and ½ teaspoon turmeric to make a paste. Apply this on face and leave it to dry for 20 mins. Wash with cold water. Repeat this twice a week to see good results.

Do you Know-

If you have very oily skin, brushing rice powder lightly over your face will give you a very matte look. Because of this, it also makes an excellent base for make-up. Rice powder absorbs oil very well and keeps your make-up from fading throughout the day.

Rice powder extract is used in many wrinkle creams. Many anti-aging skin creams and wrinkle creams contain ceramides that were extracted from rice. The ceramides in rice closely mimic our skin’s, which can give it a more youthful appearance.

Rice powder is used in some loose or pressed powder compacts. It is especially found in mineral make-up. Rice powder does a good job of covering blemishes and flaws to give the skin a smooth finish, and yet it allows the skin to breathe and does not clog pores.

(NOTE: Follow any of these remedy consistently for 6-8 weeks to get good results. Natural remedies are slow but effective and free from side-effects. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test before trying any new remedy)
