Acne Scar Causes & Remedies

Acne scars occur when a pimple or cyst gets popped or broken, leaving behind a layer of damaged skin. Thankfully though, there are many things you can do at home to help get rid of these scars. In general, look for natural treatments that reduce inflammation and exfoliate dead skin cells. Most importantly, keep your skin clean, eat a healthy diet, and avoid substances that can make your acne worse.
If you see signs that your acne is leaving a scar on your skin, you don't have to grin and bear it. There are lots of ways to heal your scars and keep new ones from forming.
Patience: The main key to seeing acne scars fade is patience. A few weeks after you break out and scar, new blood vessels move into the injured area to give nourishment to the skin, which is why most early scars look pink. Months later, collagen starts to form, filling in the injured section of skin. Because cystic acne destroys skin and fat, it can take up to a year for the scars to fade.
Don’t play with your acne: Yes, keep your hands off your acnes! Don’t play with them, don’t pick them or squeeze them, just leave them alone when you are not applying any remedy on them. Whatever you are doing to remove pimples, do it with gentle hands. Why? Because when you get acne, there is intense inflammation on your facial skin and there is loss of collagen. Collagen is the protein fiber, one of the components of skin which gives skin its elasticity. When you pick or squeeze your pimples, it leads to further inflammation and injury to your skin. It also leads the bacteria and pus in your pimple go deep down into your skin resulting in more loss of collagen which means even deeper scars on your face.
Don’t expose scars to sun: Your body is capable of taking care of your scars and they will get lighter with time. However, if you expose them to sun, their healing process will slow down and the scars will get darker. So, avoid sun. If it’s essential to go out in sun, use sunscreen to guard your skin and also cover yourself with hat, umbrella, clothes- whatever you can lay hands on.
Choose cosmetics with care: Some cosmetic products can worsen acne and increase the risk of scarring. Choose non-toxic cosmetics and apply them sparingly. Use paraben-free skincare. Parabens are preservatives used in many cosmetic products. They can cause skin irritation and inflammation for people who suffer from acne, and may be a potential allergen. Do not use cosmetic products with synthetic dyes. Your skin absorbs almost 60% of all substances applied to its surface. Avoid cosmetics with synthetic colourings as they are bad for your skin. Use oil-free cosmetics for your skin and hair. Do not apply makeup immediately after washing your skin as it can also clog your pores, leading to more acne breakouts.
Get enough sleep: Collagen production and cell repair is faster and more effective when you’re sleeping. You must give your body enough time to heal itself to get rid of scars. Having a regular sleep schedule helps to ensure better quality and consistent sleep. Avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and sugary drinks four to six hours before sleeping. These can act as a stimulant to keep you awake. A quiet, dark, and cool environment can help promote sleep. Use heavy curtains or an eye mask to block light.
Some @Home Remedies to get rid of acne scars:
